Julia Fox said that film studios wanted her breakout role in Uncut Gems to go to a “big name,” such as Lady Gaga or Jennifer Lawrence.
The 33-year-old model made her film debut as Adam Sandler’s mistress in the 2019 criminal comedy about Howard Ratner, a Jewish-American jeweler who makes the ultimate high-stakes gamble.
Fox claimed screenwriter Josh Safdie was positive she’d be excellent for the role of Ratner’s (Sandler) girlfriend Julia De Fiore in the film.
Despite the fact that she aced her screen test with Sandler, Safdie advised Fox that the studios “want someone with a big name, like Lady Gaga or Jennifer Lawrence.” According to People, Fox makes these revelations in her debut book, Down the Drain.
Fox having no prior acting experience at the time, so when she finally got the part, she described it as “winning the lottery.”
At the 2019 Gotham Awards, her performance in the critically acclaimed film garnered her a Breakthrough Actor Award.
In her memoir, she also discussed her brief two-month engagement with Kanye West, stating that he dictated what she wore.
Only referring to the “Flashing Lights” rapper as “the artist,” Fox explained that they got each other’s phone numbers from mutual acquaintances before having extensive phone chats.
According to Fox, they then met in person on New Year’s Eve 2021 and had dinner together the next day, which is when he asked her to make the relationship official.
She further said that following their initial meeting, West sent her a range of outfits. Despite the large number of garments, she claimed they were all variants of the same skintight, black jumpsuit. She claimed that during their second date, West had informed her that he intended to provide her with a style crew to assist her with her outfit.
After she tried on a number of items by prominent designers for West, she allegedly informed him, “I could get you a boob job if you want.” Despite the fact that she stated that she declined the rapper’s offer, his remark nonetheless upset her.
