Jeremy Renner “I was in survival mode”: Jeremy Renner’s Plans To Start A Career In Hollywood Didn’t Fit With His Love Life, Claiming He Was Too Broke To Even Feed Himself

Jeremy Renner is a fantastic actor best recognized for his role as Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, the actor was not as well-known or established when he initially began acting. His life, like that of the majority of actors, was filled with struggle, odd occupations, and living in terrible conditions without running water or warmth.

His love life, understandably, suffered as a result, as he once stated in an interview that he didn’t even have enough money to feed himself.

Jeremy Renner Struggled to Eat While Pursuing Acting Career

Jeremy Renner is today considered one of Hollywood’s top actors, yet before his big break and industry fame, the actor was certainly living hand to mouth, if not worse. To make ends meet, he would perform odd jobs like remodeling houses and working as a makeup artist. The actor didn’t always have running water or power to heat the house, and he even lived in a residence with no plumbing at one point.

With so little money and so little time, his love life deteriorated greatly. In an interview with Elle, the actor revealed that he didn’t have enough money to feed himself, so dating was out of the question.

“When you’re broke? You don’t date. You can’t afford to eat yourself. I didn’t have any money. I had my Ramen. And my mac-n-cheese. My donut holes. I couldn’t be bothered with dating. I was very focused on what I was doing. I had to take care of myself. I was in survival mode.”

The struggling actor would survive on Top Ramen on a monthly budget of only ten dollars. Despite his difficulties, the actor knew better than to sit and wail about it.

Jeremy Renner Has No Regrets About His Struggle

Even though the actor lived in a studio apartment with no heat or power, he understood that sobbing about it would get him nowhere. Instead, the actor was content to be doing something and working at a job he enjoyed, as he noted in an interview with Men’s Health.

“I had no electricity, no gas, no hot water. So I learned to play guitar. I lit candles. I made a vibe out of it. I said, ‘Hey, look, this is romantic. It’s not depressing that I can’t afford power.’ If I sat and cried about it, which I probably did once or twice, it doesn’t really move the needle. Changing and shifting your perspective—that’s the only thing we have control of in perpetuity.”

Even though he found it difficult, and didn’t even have running water to prepare for the Academy Awards when he received his first nomination, the actor has no regrets about his path and is glad for the opportunity.
