Derrickson said that the project is still in the early stages, and that he doesn’t want to give away too much about the plans, but that he is excited about the idea.
“I’m really excited about it,” Derrickson said. “I think we have a really cool idea for a sequel. It’s still in development, but I’m hopeful that we’ll be able to make it.”
First one was released in 1986 and starred Jennifer Connelly as Sarah, a young girl who must navigate a magical maze to rescue her baby brother from the Goblin King (David Bowie). The film was a critical and commercial failure at the time, but it has since gained a cult following.
Derrickson is best known for directing horror films such as The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Sinister, and Doctor Strange. He is also a fan of Labyrinth, and he has said that he is excited to bring the story back to life for a new generation of audiences.
It is unclear when Part Two will begin production, but Derrickson’s confirmation that the project is still in development is a good sign for fans of the original film.
