Guillermo del Toro on

Pacific Rim 2

White Scribbled Underline

Guillermo del Toro is one of the most acclaimed filmmakers of our time, with a body of work that includes such classics as Pan's Labyrinth, The Shape of Water, and Nightmare Alley.

He is also a passionate fan of kaiju, the Japanese giant monster genre. In 2013, he helmed Pacific Rim, a blockbuster film that pitted giant robots against giant monsters. The film was a critical and commercial success, and fans eagerly awaited a sequel.

However, del Toro ultimately decided not to direct part two, which was released in 2018. In a recent interview, he explained why he didn't watch the film:

White Scribbled Underline

"I never got around to watching it. It would be like watching home movies from your ex-wife. It is terrible if they're good and worse if they're bad, or the opposite. You don't wanna know."

"I've heard a lot of things about it. Some good, some bad. I'm glad that it exists, but I'm also glad that I didn't have to do it. It's a tough movie to make."

It's clear that del Toro is still invested in the universe, even though he didn't direct the sequel.

In the meantime, fans can enjoy his other work, including his latest film, Nightmare Alley, which is a dark and atmospheric remake of the 1947 film.
